The 3-D scanning company Direct Dimensions worked with Hanson Robotics on the Philip K Dick android, providing a three-dimensional model of the skull that could be used for manipulating the surface, and reproducing the skull in the exact form required.
They have extensive documentation of their involvment as well as some footage here.

Hanson Robotics has teamed up with Massive Software to produce a new robot, Zeno, an intelligent android boy. The new technology has been launched at NextFest.

Today at Wired NextFest Hanson Robotics ( is introducing “Zeno,” a robot that uses breakthrough artificial intelligence (AI) software to reason and get smarter over time. Hanson Robotics partnered with Massive Software, the developer of AI simulation software used in films such as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Happy Feet, Ratatouille, and more, to design a robot that is able to view a 3D mental image of his environment to determine and control physical action and reactions.
